I can never decide how I feel about Wes Anderson. I love the aesthetics of his films - the shots, the clothes, the colors, the props and scenery, they’re all gorgeous and well groomed and have a groovy lovely surface… But I always end up feeling that Wes et al get too caught up in a fascination with that surface and that very little of worth ever really happens. He’s much better at implying depth than creating it.
Which doesn’t mean I’m not going to go see the next one…
